Memory Box wins 'Best Start-Up' at the National iAwards

Memory Box provides an innovative solution to online backup by using a community of users on which parts of the backups are stored. It is the first system to use a community of networked computers to store backups rather than a single server in a data centre.

"The Microsoft BizSpark Start-Up Company iAward is a heavily contested, major award open to all eligible finalists in the 2009 competition. Memory Box Backup's win in this category - particularly as a pre-market company - speaks volumes for the quality of their innovation and the development of their product," said Australian Information Industry Association cheif executive Ian Birks. "Memory Box reflects extremely highly on the health of technology innovation in Australia ."

Memory Box, also a finalist in the National tools and infrastructure category, has been accepted into the Microsoft BizSpark programme as part of their award; BizSpark is a global program designed to help accelerate the success of early stage startups by providing key resources when they need it the most.

Being a finalist in two categories and winning the Microsoft award is a massive ‘tick of approval’ for Memory Box from the wider ICT industry.

Every year, one in 10 hard drives fail and 40% of computer users lose precious memories or hard work…yet many users still do not backup their files. Memory Box research showed this was often due to apathy and users seeing it as a time consuming hassle. The Memory Box solution is specifically designed to solve this as it is automated and runs in the background of a user’s computer after a simple set up. Memory Box is currently in market testing phase and in discussions with several ISP’s regarding joint initiatives.

Directors Trevor Glen and Michael Terrington were present to collect the award.
