JBL has announced the Australian release of the JBL OnBeat Xtreme, a stylish iOS device dock that combines JBL’s striking ‘weave’ design ID with rich, dynamic sound and Bluetooth wireless streaming from any Bluetooth-enabled device.

“The JBL OnBeat Xtreme is a state-of-the-art desktop speaker system that gets the most out of your music, movies and video games,” says JBL Australian distributor Convoy International chief executive Geoff Matthews.

“It is much more than just a standard iOS speaker dock - the embedded speakerphone makes it great for video conferencing and its Bluetooth capabilities turn it into a wireless speaker for an Android smartphone or tablet PC,” Geoff says.

A fully optimised dock for the iPad and iPad 2, the OnBeat Xtreme’s innovative rotating dock connector also works with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

In utilising Bluetooth wireless speaker technology, users can even enjoy music and audio-visual entertainment through the OnBeat Xtreme without needing to have their device docked – enabling access to content from any Bluetooth enabled wireless devices like smartphones, tablets or computers.

The JBL OnBeat Xtreme is ideal for any room or office, as it perfectly complements the iPad’s crisp, touch screen interface with JBL’s sound. Perfect for music and other program material, it can also be used for hands-free calling through Apple’s FaceTime or Skype, making it ideal for video conference calls. The integrated speakerphone works with Bluetooth-enabled phones via a built-in microphone, while the sound is enhanced through Digital Sound Processing (DSP) and echo cancellation.

The wireless speakers’ impressive sound emanates from dual ‘Atlas’ bass drivers and ‘Ridge’ tweeters, custom-built JBL transducers that are optimised by DSP equalisation. Users have a choice of controlling the speaker through iTunes, or by downloading JBL’s own OnBeat app available free through the iTunes App Store. The app can control playlists, EQ settings, and set an alarm or a sleep timer. The OnBeat Xtreme ships with a stylish RF (radio frequency) remote control rather than the usual IR type, thus eliminating the need for line-of-site control: users can adjust volume and song-skipping from any place within the remote control’s range, whether in front of the speaker or in another room.

The iPad dock supports advanced A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth profiles for interference-free operation, and uses the higher-quality AAC codec – supported by Apple’s iOS devices, gaming consoles from Sony and Nintendo as well as Android smartphones – for superior audio streaming. Besides a built-in 30-pin connector for iPad docking, the JBL OnBeat Xtreme includes a standard 3.5 mm input jack to connect with other music players and smartphones and a USB port for firmware updates and iTunes synchronisation.
